Eenie Meanie Theater Brings Their New Twist To Old Shakespeare New York, New York, November, 2000 - Who knew that William Shakespeare's gory, spooky Macbeth could be a comedy? Well, in the hands of the right creative people, it can be. That would be the Eenie Meanie Theater and their band of wacko actors and comedians. Director Robert Oliver explains, "You know, we were reading this play at a company meeting one night and don't ask me why we were reading this particular script. But someone started doing a silly voice... and that made us laugh. And eventually we got to thinking, 'Hmmm. I wonder if there's a way we can make it into a comedy'". And they have. Their six-week Equity Showcase production was a success and now that that run is finished, they are moving the play to the West Beth Theater for a bigger audience to enjoy. "We are thrilled and tickled that this has happened for us", says producer Tammy Farrington. "I mean, we knew it was a funny show what with Lady Macbeth sleepwalking and bumping into furniture but we didn't dream this would lead to a life beyond our initial run. Well, OK, we did dream it, but...." So don't expect a standard interpretation of the Shakespearean classic. You might be a little put off by the severed head juggling and the witches who seem more at home telling jokes in a Catskills resort than in a medieval Scottish swamp.
